A 90 – 100% Excellent
The grades A and A+ are excellent. You should be very proud of your work, as it is very good. Your performance was outstanding in most areas, with only minor mistakes that did not detract from the overall quality of your work. Great effort!
These marks reflect a high standard of achievement which is consistent with excellence throughout the assignment or project. Your answer was well structured and clearly written, giving evidence of a thorough understanding of how to apply knowledge within real-world situations. This level also requires you to use technical skills confidently and demonstrate independent thinking/problem-solving ability as well as evaluation skills
B+ 85 – 89% Very Good
A B+ is a very good grade and indicates that you are doing well in the course. You should be proud of your achievement and consider yourself a high achiever. Students who achieve this grade indicate their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, with some degree of originality and creativity. If you wish to pass the course with distinction, it is recommended that you prepare for exams by revising all material covered during lecture (including reading suggested books) as well as laboratory notes/handouts from previous sessions.
In addition to studying hard, please make sure that you complete assignments on time so that they can be used for assessment purposes. It also helps if there are no gaps between assignments where information is not provided by yourself within whatever timeframe has been set out by your lecturer – this makes it easier for lecturers when they’re marking up assignments because they know exactly what has been submitted thus far!
B 80 – 84% Good
B
This grade indicates that you have produced work of a good standard. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the course content, although there may be some areas where you need to focus more attention. Your essay is well constructed with a clear structure and development; however, it could do with some improvement in terms of style and word choice. Overall, this is a good piece of work and should satisfy the requirements set by your tutors in Module 2 (or Part A).
C+ 75 – 79% Competent
A grade of C+ means the student has demonstrated competent performance. A C+ is an average grade and indicates that you have acquired some knowledge, but not all of the requirements for each topic or skill are fully mastered. A C+ is what you might get if you’ve done well on your exams, but haven’t quite mastered all the material.
A typical assignment at this level would be a well-written essay or project that shows only partial comprehension of course concepts. You may know enough about some topics to do them well in class exercises, but cannot apply these skills to new situations without assistance from others (i.e., teachers or other students).
C 70 – 74% Average
Average is the most common grade at Ara Institute Of Canterbury. In fact, it’s the most common GPA and overall grade as well.
If you choose to be average, you’ll have a lot of people around you who are also around the same mark as you. This means that there’s a good chance that your friends will be able to do their homework with ease and help each other out if they’re struggling. This can be quite useful!
However, being average isn’t all fun and games. If everyone else is doing well in class while you’re struggling along with them, then perhaps it’s time for some self-reflection before things get too much worse than they already are?
D+ 65 – 69% Just Passes
The grading scale is as follows:
D+: 65-69% (just pass)
D: 60 – 64% (pass with merit)
C+ 60 – 64% (pass with distinction)
D 55 – 64% Poor — Not Recommended for Further Study
Poor performance is indicated by an aggregate mark of 55-64%.
Poor results are not recommended for further study, and you may have to re-attempt the course. If you fail a unit three times, you will not be able to complete the course.
If you receive a D grade in a subject area, it could negatively impact your overall grade point average (GPA). This can make it difficult to get into certain courses or graduate from Ara Institute Of Canterbury.
